The Pavilion, as everyone called the once-bustling center of downtown Myrtle Beach is now several acres of empty space. This is an historic area, but the history of these acres seems lost in “emptiness.” This space is just begging for some type of tourist-centric development. It once brought people to Myrtle Beach and this area will again. Meanwhile the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade has added a much needed pedestrian thoroughfare along the beach. The sign tells the following story:

Myrtle Beach Pavilions

A succession of four beach pavilions stood here or nearby from 1902 to 2006, all build by the Burroughs & Chapin Co. or the Myrtle Beach Farms Co. The first, built in 1902, was a simple oceanfront shelter. The second, built in 1907, was a frame building 1 1/2 blocks from the beach. The third pavilion, a two-story frame building, was built in 1923. An amusement park added te 1030s grew to more than 11 acres.

Today, a nice, wide section of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk (as shown below) anchors the eastern side of the property. There is a feeling of patriotism brought on by the flags snapping to attention against a crisp blue sky as one strolls along the edge of the ocean’s. Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Flags at the Pavilion
