It’s quite possible that the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk could grow an extra 425 feet this year. The boardwalk currently ends at 14th Avenue North, but with the extension, would now end at 16th Avenue North.

Not all details have been worked out, but the developer of a new Mexican restaurant called Banditos will pay to have the boardwalk extended to run past his restaurant. The city is hard at work demolishing several closed down hotels in order to make way for the new business.

The developer hopes the new Banditos restaurant is ready for business by May 1st.

The boardwalk opened in May 2010 to help revitalize and draw visitors to the the downtown beachfront area and to help transform, what the now closed, Pavilion amusement park had done in the past.

With numerous sitting alcoves and large benches, one can rest their weary bones and soak in the beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. Numerous beach and gift related merchants have storefronts that open directly onto the boardwalk. So now, one can stroll, shop, and catch the ocean breezes without getting all the sand in between your toes.

Update 4/27/2013
Construction on the northern end extension of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk has started and should be complete by July of this year.

Plyler Park, which is adjacent to the Boardwalk at 10th Avenue North, is home to summer concerts and year round events.
