If you are heading to the beach this summer you really should make reservations early if you want to stay on (or near) the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Since the ribbon cutting in May of 2010 this section of “downtown” has soared in popularity. That means that 100% occupancy happens quite early, with no rooms available in the best spots for those who procrastinate in booking a vacation.
This hotel, the Holiday Inn - At The Pavilion at 12th Avenue North on the Boards, is in a perfect location for someone who likes the “beach” part of Myrtle Beach. The property is parallel to the ocean (and boardwalk) so every room has an ocean front view. We recently stayed in a 9th floor “suite” with a wonderful balcony that gave us a view of the Atlantic Ocean that stretched from the 2nd Street Pier to well above the 14th Street Pier. That encompassed the entire boardwalk area, and then some…
The hotel, itself, is one of the HIs that are known as a “Resort” Holiday Inn. This place has three [heated] pools - two indoors and one outdoors. One of the indoor pools is the “Lazy River” style - with a slow moving current and inflatable tubes - so you can enjoy a water ride that is slow, comfortable and fun.
The suites have a separate bedroom, a full kitchen and a Murphy Bed in the living room. This provides wonderful accommodations for a family - because the kids can be put to bed without needing “lights out” for everyone else. The outdoor area has plenty of lawn chairs, a large pool (of course) and a pool-side bar (how convenient, eh?).
For the techy in me, free high speed internet wi-fi was available. Reception was very strong in the room, the pool and the beach area. The family thoroughly enjoyed the convenience of the Holiday Inn Pavilions free continental breakfast each morning. Our 3 year-old granddaughter loved being able to walk downstairs and having the beach at her “back door”.
The hotel was just a short two or three minute walk from Plyler Park and the merchants section of the boardwalk. Here we found the Oceanfront Bar and Grill and The Bowery.
Another “convenience” a vacationer should expect is ample and nearby parking. The photo below was taken from one of two parking lots directly across the street. There was also a two-level garage (where we parked) just behind the two lots. Of course, unless you want to take a short (10 minute) trip to Broadway at the Beach you may not have to use or move your car during your entire stay. The Boardwalk really does have that much to do - all within walking distance.
